UV Index Cameroon

According to the WHO, the average daily ambient ultraviolet radiation in Cameroon is 5,185 J/m² (joules per square metre).

UV radiation overview

Cameroon stretches from about 1.7°N on the Gulf of Guinea to roughly 13.1°N near Lake Chad, placing the entire country deep within the tropics. According to Wikipedia's Geography of Cameroon, the south is dominated by hot, humid equatorial rainforest where the sun passes near the zenith twice a year, while the centre and north transition through the Adamawa plateau into Sahelian savanna. This near-equatorial geometry keeps solar elevation high every month, so ambient ultraviolet stays intense year-round rather than showing the strong summer peak typical of mid-latitudes.

Cameroon's signature landform, Mount Cameroon (Mongo ma Ndemi) on the Gulf of Guinea coast, rises to about 4,040 m and is one of Africa's most active volcanoes. As Wikipedia notes, its windward base around Debundscha is one of the wettest places on Earth, with persistent cloud shielding the lowlands, while exposed upper slopes receive much stronger ultraviolet thanks to thinner atmosphere at altitude. To the north, the Adamawa plateau and Sahel-edge Far North region see clearer, drier skies and high direct-beam UV, especially during the harmattan dry season.

Cameroon sits at #48 of 191 in the WHO's global ambient-UV ranking with about 5,185 J/m² of average daily UV, around the 75th percentile worldwide.
