UV Index Israel

According to the WHO, the average daily ambient ultraviolet radiation in Israel is 3,682 J/m² (joules per square metre).

UV radiation overview

Israel is a small Eastern Mediterranean country stretching from roughly 33.3°N at the Lebanese border down to about 29.5°N at Eilat on the Gulf of Aqaba, a span of less than 470 km that nonetheless packs in sharply contrasting landscapes. A narrow Mediterranean coastal plain holding Tel Aviv and Haifa rises to the Judean and Galilean hills around Jerusalem, drops into the Jordan Rift Valley containing the Dead Sea at −430 m (Earth's lowest land surface), and broadens south into the arid Negev Desert covering more than half the country.

Israel's defining UV feature is the persistently clear, dry atmosphere over the Negev — from Be'er Sheva south to Eilat cloud cover is exceptionally low year-round, producing some of the highest cumulative annual ultraviolet doses in the Mediterranean basin. The Dead Sea valley at −430 m below sea level is a notable exception: the extra ~5 % atmospheric path length and locally enhanced aerosols modestly attenuate UVI compared with the adjacent Judean Hills only 20 km away. The Israel Meteorological Service issues daily UV index forecasts, with summer noon values routinely reaching 10–11 (very high to extreme) across most of the country.

Israel sits at #124 of 191 in the WHO's global ambient-UV ranking with about 3,682 J/m² of average daily UV, around the 35th percentile worldwide.
