UV Index Paraguay

According to the WHO, the average daily ambient ultraviolet radiation in Paraguay is 4,038 J/m² (joules per square metre).

UV radiation overview

Paraguay is a landlocked South American country stretching from roughly 19.3°S to 27.6°S, with the Tropic of Capricorn crossing its northern Chaco region. This subtropical latitude band places the country close to the zone of near-overhead solar noon during summer, producing high sun angles and a broad, intense ultraviolet regime. Elevations remain modest, mostly between 50 and 400 m, so altitude adds little additional UV burden; latitude and day length dominate the country's solar exposure profile year-round.

A defining feature of Paraguay's UV climate is the contrast between its two halves: the western Chaco, with hot, dry, cloud-poor summers that allow direct sunlight to reach the surface with little atmospheric attenuation, and the humid eastern Paraná basin, where convective cloud and moisture moderate peak irradiance. The national meteorological service DINAC (Dirección Nacional de Aeronáutica Civil / Dirección de Meteorología e Hidrología) issues UV-index forecasts and advisories using the WHO scale, and there is no significant elevation modulation across the territory.

Paraguay sits at #115 of 191 in the WHO's global ambient-UV ranking with about 4,038 J/m² of average daily UV, around the 39th percentile worldwide.
