UV Index Serbia

UV radiation overview

Serbia is a landlocked Balkan country stretching roughly between 42.2°N and 46.2°N. Its northern third is the flat, fertile Pannonian plain of Vojvodina, while the centre and south rise into the Dinaric Alps in the west, the Carpathian–Balkan ranges in the east, and the Šar-Kopaonik massifs in the south. The highest point lies on Midžor in the Stara Planina range at 2,169 m on the border with Bulgaria, giving Serbia a strong north–south relief gradient.

Kopaonik, a broad plateau peaking near 2,017 m and averaging about 1,700 m, hosts Serbia's main ski resort and a long-running high-altitude meteorological observatory where thinner air and frequent snow cover push summer UV well above lowland values. The national weather service RHMZ (Republički hidrometeorološki zavod) publishes a daily UV index forecast for Serbian cities. The Vojvodina plain experiences hot, dry continental summers with frequent clear skies, driving peak UV index values of 7–8, while the Đerdap gorge of the Danube marks the country's lowest elevations.
