Live UV index map
See the UV index anywhere in the world on a live map. Colours update hour by hour, so you can watch where the sun is strong right now and play the forecast for the days ahead. Switch to the clear-sky view to see the same forecast without clouds, and check which cities are getting the most sun at any moment.
Colours show the UV index at the selected hour, on the WHO scale used across this site. The map moves with the sun: the strongest colours follow midday. The with-clouds view includes the forecast cloud cover, so it shows what you can actually expect. The clear-sky view shows the same hours as if the sky stayed completely clear, useful when your plans depend on the weather.

Frequently asked questions
How often does the map update?
The UV forecast behind the map is refreshed about twice a day, and the map follows automatically. The time slider runs from the current hour to the end of the forecast.
How far ahead does the forecast go?
Up to five days: the rest of today plus the four days after it, hour by hour. Press play or drag the slider to watch UV rise and fall with the sun. For anything further out, the monthly maps show what each time of year usually brings.
Does the map include clouds?
The with-clouds view does: it shows the UV expected under the forecast cloud cover. The clear-sky view shows the same hours as if the sky were completely clear. Thick cloud can cut UV a lot, but light or broken cloud often lets most of it through, so do not count on a grey sky to protect you.
